What is Semi Permanent Makeup (SPMU)?

Everything you want to know about Semi Permanent Makeup (SPMU)

SPMU = Semi PermanentMake-Up. Is the most natural technique to look fresh and natural.

It is by no means a replacement for makeup but rather a technique to simply look better without makeup.

Wake up and still look natural without looking sick 🙂

You always look natural & fresh, even on the days when you don't feel so good and don't feel like putting on makeup.

Semi-Permanent makeup is applied to naturally put pigments back into the skin, a synonym for SPMU is dermatopigmentation = putting pigments into the skin in a very natural and gentle way.

These techniques allow us to make eyes, brows and lips look better without looking like fake makeup.

What is the difference between semi permanent makeup and permanent makeup?

"Permanent makeup?! One of those black green thick lines around my mouth that will never go away or two stripes as eyebrows? No thanks!"

People who know permanent makeup from the past are more likely to make statements like this and are completely unjustified.

SPMU is not similar to permanent makeup/tattoos. Therefore, we do not call semi permanent makeup tattooing, but pigmentation.

A tattoo is placed much deeper into the skin than SPMU. Semi Permanent makeup or dermatopigmentation is placed in the upper layer of the dermis. This is the layer of skin below the epidermis. We also work with different needles for pigmentation instead of the typical tattoo needles. Our needles are much less sharp and do less damage to the skin. The color pigments have changed. Green we no longer have 🙂 They used to work with a mixture of colors e.g. red, black and yellow to obtain brown.

The problem? Colors rising more to the top and more likely to turn yellow, red. This is no longer applied, working with color in one molecule. So the pigment does not fall apart into separate compartments, but will fade evenly as a whole. We now have more than 500 different shades of brown!

SPMU remains about 1 to 2 years because of this the pigmentation is not permanent. Due to UV light and the natural renewal of the skin, among other things, the semi permanent makeup will gradually fade.

We recommend doing a new session of SPMU every 2 years on average, if you wish, of course.

How is SPMU applied and how long does it take?

The technique of semi permanent makeup is inserted into the skin using very fine needles attached in a needle module with added pigment color. Depending on the treatment you choose, the SPMU treatment takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.

How long will SPMU stay?

As discussed above, SPMU stays for 1 to 2 years, depending on the person.

Of course this differs from the treatment site e.g. : at the eyes and lips the spmu stays between 3 and 5 years.

Who is SPMU (not) suitable for?

On SPMU there is no age & is popular with young and old alike! Social media did make it more popular than before. "If you see something beautiful on someone else, you want that too! Through a platform like social media, you reach a lot of people and thus more clients. With blood or active skin diseases we advise against SPMU as well as with pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Are there any risks associated with SPMU?

If set in poor conditions, there are always risks such as bacterial skin infections, tetanus and viral infections. After all, you are still working with needles and introducing foreign material into the body. Always do your research before making an appointment: check social media, read reviews. And know: if it's too good to be true, it usually is!

Choose a reliable and experienced institute like Dermatopigmentation.

Who can and may place SPMU?

Only licensed SPMU specialists with degrees are allowed to place SPMU. We only work with the very best SPMU artists, trained by our own specialists in our DP Academy.

What SPMU techniques do we offer?

Brows (+- 350 €)

Karen Sarasin: "There used to be microblading, a technique where tiny eyebrow hairs are drawn for a hyper-realistic result. Nowadays, the new hype is powderbrows: they give a very beautiful and realistic filling. A softer effect but still very natural."

Eyeliner (+- 200 €)

Karen Sarasin: "This liner is put right on the lash line, and immediately gives the effect of a dark lash line. It's not noticeable, but your eyes are accentuated and it immediately looks like you have fuller lashes." Still prefer an Eyeliner with wing or a slightly thicker line? Anything is possible! We discuss with the client what will give the most beautiful giant liner and best suits your face.

Lips (+- 400 €)

Karen Sarasin: "As we age, not only does the volume of the lips decrease, but also the color. Putting color back into the skin makes the lips look full again, without necessarily using fillers."

Medical Pigmentation: (+/- 400 euros)

Karen Sarasin: People use medical pigmentation techniques primarily for camouflaging scars and improving aesthetic results after reconstructive or aesthetic procedures.

For women or men who have undergone breast reconstruction or other breast surgery, these medical pigmentation techniques are a wonder.
